Impact of Technology on Business

machine learning articles

Together with the advancement of science and technology, technological innovations grew along with it, resulting to the emergence of new equipment and gadgets. No matter how big or small your company is, technology brings both intangible and tangible benefits to become cost efficient and to meet the growing demands and needs of customers. Technological innovations affect corporate efficiency, culture and relationship among employees, clients, suppliers and customers. The type and quality of technology used affect the security of confidential business information.

Due to the burden brought by administrative tasks, like inventory, bookkeeping and records keeping, both big and small companies rely on computers to do their administrative works. The birth of Internet and online social networking sites tremendously decreased the costs of business operations. It also makes it easier for companies to use the Six Sigma management methodologies. Some firms shifted to outsourcing instead of hiring their own personnel due to the low costs associated with it. Because of the huge impact of technological innovations to companies, it is impossible for them to live with it.

Commonly used high technology equipment:

  • Computers
  • Photocopier
  • Telephone
  • Computer printer
  • Internet
  • Paper shredder
  • Multimedia projector
  • Touch screen monitors
  • Computer mouse
  • Laptop computers

Advantages of Technology to Business:

  • Customer Relations. Technology affects the way companies communicate and establish relations with their clients. In a fast moving and business environment, it is vital for them to interact with clients regularly and quickly to gain their trust and to obtain customer loyalty. With the use of Internet and online social networks, firms interact with consumers and answer all their queries about the product. Establishing effective communication with customers not only creates rapport with them, but it also creates strong public image. It allows business enterprises to reduce and to cut carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Business Operations. With the use of technological innovations, business owners and entrepreneur understand their cash flow better, how to manage their storage costs well and enables you to save time and money.

E-learning – Make It Happen Five Tried And Tested Ways of Making e-Learning Work

machine learning articles

According to the expanded research carried out by the Sapio Institute, an organization dedicated to conducting ongoing studies in the field of e-learning, there are five prerequisites for ensuring the success of e-learning initiatives.

Organisational Buy-in

The company must 'buy in' to the initiative and take on the mantle of the primary driver. It must project itself as a learning organization and foster a learning environment that pervades the entire organization. Companies like GE, Pfizer and Microsoft are excellent examples of learning organizations that actively support and drive their e-learning programs.

This factor is a critical ingredient for ensuring that learners complete their courses and training programs. While the research indicates that more often than not, the motivation is external ("Your job / promotion depends on it, so you'd better do it!"), It also shows that in the long-run, internal motivation is what really matters. Managers have an inherent inclination to broaden their knowledge bases and upgrade their skill-sets, and the e-learning initiatives must align with this inclining.

Blended Model

Pure play e-learning has its limits. To maximize its efficiency, a mixture blend of classroom training and e-learning is required. This is, in fact, one of the big secrets of successful e-learning. The research shows a clear correlation between the implementation of classroom introductions (for modules, in particular) and the achievement of significantly higher levels of course completion.

A Culture of Independent Learning

Generally, we are dependent learners. The methods of education and training that we are subjected to make us so. To ensure the success of its e-learning initiatives, organizations need to create a culture of independent learning, by providing the requisite infrastructure (CD-ROMs, Intranets, online resources, etc) and by instilling the habit of independent learning among its managers.

Reading text off one's computer screen does not institute e-learning. To make the initiative work, it is necessary to build high levels of user involvement. The best way to achieve this is by enriching the learning experience through graphics, animation sequences, voiceovers and interactive devices. The key idea is to engage the user's attention and draw him / her into the module, enhancing in the process, the impact and effectiveness of the overall e-learning initiative.

What Would Be the Best "Hello World" for Biosciences? Generating a Method for Biohacking

machine learning articles

The first step that a beginner hacker or programmer takes towards a technical and logical deepening is to program the famous Hello World. It is a kind of computer pattern, so, the first step for future algorithms. And there is no computer programmer or hacker in the world who has not already created a Hello World, even just to test a new compiler or a new programming language. However, if there is this pattern, or rather, this START for hackers and computer programmers, then what would be the best model pattern or start for biohackers? Some method for beginners to have as a model in the field of biosciences.

Biosciences are not something popular yet, and there is a great barrier for ordinary people to work on issues like genetics. It seems absurd to think that common people could work with genetics, even as Hobby, as well as work with other classical sciences. The same was true about computing in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, but with the advancement of the microtechnology industry, especially microelectronics, devices such as hardware have had a reduction in world prices and scales. With this advancement in popularization and access to materials, we all know how the advance in computing took place, forming a breeding ground for hackers. What is questioned now is the possibility of this same fact with biosciences. A popularization and access to materials, devices and knowledge to further strengthen the incipient hacker movement. There are cheap KITs and materials for biohackers, it’s are already being made available, although considered amateur by some specialists, but, which hacker did not begin as an amateur, and in a short time, it flouted the highest technologies. We cannot deny that it is already a beginning, and there is a huge field to be improved. However, the focus of this article is on the search for a method, not the materials now. In the case, the method for biohackers is connected in a Hello World for the biosciences, for a model or a START to the new biohackers. Something so simple, but that carries the maximum of concept. A method to become standard for biohackers, just like there is Hello World. This method is what we are looking for right now! Recalling, the concept of method is an organized set of procedure, technique, or means of doing something methodically and patronized according to a highly organized, logical, and systematic plan or process of research, instruction, investigation and presentation.

As important now as the growth of the biohacker movement is the pursuit of this standard, this method. Something like performing a PCR polymerase chain reaction, or even extracting DNA from cells, and even more sophisticated devices like the connection or interfaces between biological platform and computing. In relation to hackers these are self-taught, and referring to the concepts to work with biosciences there are no excuses. Because we have never had so much knowledge on an open and organized platform as today, one example is the Microsoft ™ Khan Academy ™ platform. In addition to so many other examples. In short words, anyone today can become a hacker, as well as, become a biohacker with a basic method. A method for biohacking – An agile method, a step by step, with the basic introduction, as the famous Hello World in programming, in which it will result in a revolution HYPE for biosciences. What would be required for a hacker or novice programmer is summed up with a machine that is a computer, a compiler, and the concept of programming logic. The first step of every computer is started by the famous “Hello World”. You can say that programming Hello World is the gateway to the hacker and programming world. It is a practice, a standard in this field. The question we are raising in biohacking. It is formalized by the question: What would be the best “Hello World” for biosciences?

So far, biosciences have been stuck in academies and private laboratories, but with the advancement of knowledge and easy access to new gadgets and handmade equipment’s and instruments, at reduced prices, it has become easy and cheap to purchase materials for bioscience work in a popular way. It is a revolution like the advance of computers in its popularization, generating hackers. At present, the new breakthrough hacker is in adding the classic sciences in their actions. Thus, appearing characters or agents named biohackers and even nanohackers. These will make use of biosciences to hack into the human genome, as well as generate innovation. No one can deny a sentence: what would current computing be without hacking a few decades ago? We can even say that we are in a dilemma nowadays. The traditional means of producing science are stagnant and slow. And this new agent the biohacker as you begin your global operation will bring HYPE gas and acceleration to innovative science and technological innovations.

About the actual science, an interesting case is presented in the plateau effect concept – more details can be seen in the book of the same name. This concept refers to a kind of paralysis in the progress of knowledge and science, a psychological slowness and other factors. The concept is well exemplified to those who are learning a new language, but at a certain stage, progress suffers a slow and paralysed due to several factors. It is not very different in the progress of biosciences, and one of the reasons for this laziness, faced with so many variables is the high complexity. However, just as the hacker movement has oxygenated computing with many innovations, the biohacker movement, while there are pros and cons, will undoubtedly oxygenate biosciences and other conceptual sciences. This new action matrix will bring an icebreaker, a kind of HYPE acceleration in what is stagnant. There is much academic concept and little practical use now. There is no denying, there is a new complex matrix in the formation. The CRISPR and biohacker movement has even been a subject of Nature ™ journals in 2017.

In fact, not only is the question of the best method to generate a START, for amateur biohackers, in this case, a suggestion would be in a popularization of the PCR method, remember PCR as Polymerase Chain Reaction, but this is one of the possibilities in front of so many others. Opening to new business with the biohacking movement is unprecedented. The possibility of outsourcing for analytical tests, the leasing of laboratories, the sale of KITs for biohackers, new means of testing and a plethora of collaboration and unlimited competition. It is practically a new world that is forming in biosciences, a matrix in complex formation.

Benefits of a Rowing Machine

machine learning articles

Using a rowing machine can help you burn a lot of calories, sometimes as many as 800 an hour. Considering that you are sitting down, it hardly feels like a work out at all! I’m joking of course, but it is certainly an exercise that almost anyone can do as it is non-impact in nature.

The movements of rowing need you to move your arms backwards and forwards over and over again. Your heart loves that! The elevated circulation towards the heart is ideal for improving coronary heart health. As mentioned earlier, It’s a low impact physical exercise that’s easy on the legs and ankles. Rowing is suitable for anybody from the incredibly fit, to beginners, to those who are recovering from an injury or surgery.

Rowing means that your entire body is active. This alone shows how a rowing machine benefits you! You need to use every part of your body to row as well. It certainly feels like an overall total body exercise the next day. Modern rowing machines are built to really feel and sometimes even sound like you are on water, depending on the type of rowing machine you purchase.

I’d really like to stress that rowing is a great low impact alternative to using other types of exercise equipment, such as treadmills or cross trainers. Like jogging, rowing can make use of every muscle and increases the amount of muscle activity for the whole body. And since it calls for all the muscles to work, rowing can be classified as a total body workout. Trust me, it will certainly feel like you’ve had a whole body workout by the time you have finished!

However, traditional rowing isn’t always convenient for everyone. To do this, you need to have a boat, lake or river, and a group of friends who also like the sport. And so, when there are lots of requirements involved just to do one physical exercise, you might tend to look for another, more accessible, exercise.

Before you do though, you should definitely try using a rowing machine first. Rowing machines are created to replicate the actual experience of rowing on water, at least as closely as it is possible to do on dry land.

Working out or training on a rowing machine helps make the upper and lower body stronger and works out all those important muscles. And the good thing about this is that you can work you legs, arms, legs, shoulders, and lower back without inflicting any impact on the joints, as it is a fairly low risk exercise so long as the proper technique is used.

Paper Clips And Learning Through Reading

machine learning articles

Many a book that supposedly teaches the art of leadership simply sticks to just reheating purely theoretical research and social surveys and adding a dab of advice here and there. There’s really not a whole lot about how to lead that can be learned from those sorts of documents.

The best teacher when it comes to leadership is experience. But in today’s world, which only seems to be moving faster and faster every day (and in which, let’s face it, bosses are getting more impatient for results and less patient with those who can’t deliver or improve fast enough), you really can’t blame would-be leaders and leaders alike for wanting to be better, faster, in ways that circumvent the old experiential process of learning.

It goes without saying that the most experienced leaders- those who’ve really ‘been it’ and ‘done it’ – have quite a bit of vital experience to share about the art of leadership. And it would be good for both newbies and veterans alike to learn from these battle-scarred colleagues of theirs.

Books like Never Steal a Paper Clip are thus invaluable even for those whose interest in learning to become a leader is merely casual. They showcase lessons gleaned from real-life experiences and impart these to their readers so they can get a taste of what ‘real’ leadership is like.

Never Steal a Paper Clip adopts a novel approach in teaching how to deal with common leadership problems. It distills time-tested insights into twelve maxims or lessons, each one beginning with “Never”, to teach us what not to do in order to become great leaders. In many of them, specific examples of actual people whose experiences exemplify each maxim, those who learned the maxims ‘the hard way’, are mentioned to bring life to the point and provide specific examples.

Professors – Using Student-Driven Learning Methods – Strategic Use of Student Presentations

machine learning articles

Students master and retain learning more effectively (than many other methods) when they present their work to others. Essentially all of us (no matter our age) can remember details of a school presentation we made long ago. Regardless of the discipline area, your students will likely benefit from making presentations also – that is, as long as you follow sound practices.

First, remember that the number one fear of adults is public speaking, so your students, regardless of whether they are 18-year-old freshmen or 68-year-old graduate students, are likely to need a fair amount of reassurance. One key form of the reassurance that will support them (but that many professors overlook) is providing students with an adequate overview of the assignment. When students don’t have the ‘big picture” they need, they are likely to make unfocused, disjointed presentations – which contribute to their feelings of inadequacy the next time around. Therefore, students should be provided – in writing and well in advance – the goals and objectives of the presentation, as well as a detailed scoring rubric.

In a large course or when building teamwork is an especially desirable goal, you might consider having students make presentations in a group setting, for example, as a member of a forum or panel discussion. Presenting to a small group is less frightening than presenting to a large group, particularly if the chosen subset of the class has been working together on various projects through the semester.

If yours is an introductory course and/or students voice considerable anxiety, provide individual coaching or model presentation skills, showing students how to gain viewers’ attention, use visual aids, form a powerful conclusion, and so on. You can also have a student with a proven track record in another professor’s class demonstrate effective presentation skills. Videos (off or on-line) on how to develop an excellent presentation are another possibility. A final, but far less desirable, option is to deliver a full presentation yourself, emphasizing in advance the key techniques students should look for. Some students are likely to have difficulty separating such a presentation from regular lecture or demonstration, while others might view such a presentation as *the* model and work so hard to duplicate it that they appear unnatural. Note: This is, of course, assuming that you are a model presenter.

Viewers and speakers can derive full value from presentations only when feedback is plentiful, objective, and consistent. We recommend allowing viewers to contribute to the evaluation of their peers. One frequently used method is to give viewers index cards on which they are asked to do a “three by three”; that is, they are to write down three strong points and three suggested improvements for each presentation. These are turned in at the end of the presentation and then attached to the evaluation form completed by the instructor.

The student who makes the presentation is not the only one who is learning. Therefore, you should measure the learning that occurs among the audience. This helps to indicate to the student presenters that the effectiveness of their efforts matters – not only to them but to their classmates. It is sometimes worthwhile to base at least a portion of the presenter’s grade on how much the other students learned. Remember, what gets measured gets done, and students value those measurements (i.e., grades) highly.

Deliver specific praise for student presentations in public, and give constructive criticism in private. This way of delivering feedback is part of creating a supportive environment. Keep in mind that such an environment increases students’ retention of the material that they have already presented, as well as what they have heard their fellow students present. It also contributes to the enhancement of student efficacy and self-esteem.

Finally, remember that nearly any good idea can be overdone. Unless yours is a public speaking course, resist the increasingly common tendency, especially in graduate courses, to have students learn the majority of the course content through various types of presentations. Consumer-oriented students are likely to perceive that such an arrangement denies them access to the expertise of a professor for whom they invested considerable financial resources.

How to Burn Copy Protected DVDs – It’s Quick & Painless!

machine learning articles

Been wondering how to make a backup copy of those copy protected DVDs in case of a fire, theft, or other damages? Many people have hundreds of costly DVDs and I am going to tell you how to burn copy protected DVDs to protect your investment and make it as painless for you as possible.

Learning to how burn copy protected DVDs is much easier than most people think. And it is understandable that producers would want to copyright their material to keep people from obtaining copies illegally, but what about us honest folks that want to protect our pricey investments in case of an accident. If you are like me you spend a lot of money on your favorite movies and would be very disappointed if they were to get broken, stolen or lost. That is why I want to tell you how to burn your DVDs too!

  • The single most important part of burning DVDs, especially those that are copy protected is having a good software program that is capable of making copies of copy protected DVDs. Many programs do not have this feature, and when you are burning a copy protected DVD it is essential.
  • The second essential element to this process is obviously a DVD burner in your PC. Many new computers come with these already installed or as an option when purchasing and it is a great idea to include it into the price because it is much cheaper this way. Make sure that the specs on your DVD burner say that it is a DVD-R and not just a DVD player.
  • Lastly, you will want quality blank DVD recordable discs. This is an item you don’t want to skimp on either. Check the packaging and see how many minutes are recordable to the disk and compare it to the DVD you would like to burn. Many times if the disc is not large enough in memory the quality of your copy will be sacrificed.

OK so you have your software, hardware, and blank discs. What is next? After you install your burning software it will have a tutorial to walk you through the process which typically includes making a temporary copy of your DVD you wish to burn, or if you have two drives this can be done simultaneously as you make the copy. You will then insert your blank disc and let it make the copy. And BAM! You’ve got a back up copy your of your favorite copy protected DVD!

5 Ways to Use Teleseminars As a Training Medium

machine learning articles

Every once in a while I'll get a question from someone that just doesnt make a lot of sense. It's like they have missed the boat entirely. Or they have not been listening. But then I have to remind myself that sometimes it's a matter of not really understanding the proper use of the words in the question.

Not too long ago one of my students asked just such a question of me. They were wondering what other ways you could use a teleseminar as a training medium.

Now the problem with that question of course is that a teleseminar is not a medium in the normal sense of the word. Or at least in the sense that was intended – this was a practical question not the start of a discussion of the various types of learning delivery.

In this article I'm going to answer the question that was intended rather than the one that was asked. So here are five ways to use "teleseminars" as a training medium.

1. As a teleseminar. No, I'm not being sarcastic. A teleseminar is a lecture or seminar provided over the telephone – generally using a conferencing service of some sort. (I did say the words were used wrong). So you can use a teleconference as a training medium by presenting a teleseminar. And yes, I could have said by providing a class or group instruction. But this was more fun!

2. As a coaching call. A teleseminar is properly speaking is a formal training session with class participation over the phone. But frequently they are more lecture than seminar. A coaching call is a less formal session incorporating more question and answer or discussion time. It is a true seminar or tutorial. However, from a practical standpoint many coaching calls end up as teleseminars when the questions stop.

3. As a work review session. One of the methods of learning delivery is homework. Yes, that hated word – but it does have a purpose. And in order to gain the most from that purpose sometimes it is necessary to review the work performed. The result is similar to a coaching call but is more focused on questions and answers and less on discussions.

4. A teleconference (which is what we are really talking about) can be used for a workshop under certain conditions. Generally speaking it really does not work well for that purpose. Why? Because a teleconference is an audio only media. As a result it is difficult to show people what they are expected to do. It is also difficult to do a walk-around and check that no problems are being experienced. However, in the case of soft skills and discussion based work it is possible to do a tele-workshop.

5. As the audio track for a webinar or video. This is an example just for the sake of heading off in another direction. A teleseminar or teleconference is an audio product. By recording it you can use it as the base for a number of different products. One of those potential products is as a webinar or video where the recording is the audio track.

Is it a trend? Is it the latest fashion on how things should be made? What are tutorials? You probably heard about them, you probably even used them, but never thought of them as such.

Exaggerating of course, we could say even a food recipe is a tutorial. In common language a tutorial is something that teaches you how to do something, explaining all the steps of the process to you. In educational terms, a tutorial is a class made up of few students, in which a professor provides individual attention and information to them.

You must remember at school all those get together with other colleagues in which were you supposed to learn all sorts of things? Yes, that are tutorials. They can be groups from one or up to 20 students that supplement the information provided in class with the purpose of obtaining better information about something.

But lets be serious, nowadays this kind of tutorials are rather out of fashion. Since we all live in the internet and communication age, we can easily talk about a new kind of tutorials. Yes, the internet ones. They are documents or softwares, or any other media created for instructional purposes for a variety of tasks.

Tutorials have the next characteristics:

  1. They are a presentation of the content of something, usually containing one or more examples, divided into sections, chapters and sub chapters to confirm a better understanding and organization of the content.
  2. We can say they are methods of reviewing. They have the purpose of reinforcing or facilitating the understanding of the content in a specific section.
  3. Next we can state that they are a transition to other modules and they are build on the instructions and information already provided.

It is important to know that not all tutorials are the same. They can organize information in different ways. Either linear or branched.

Now let us jump to computer education. In this field, a tutorial is a program made with the purpose of assisting users in the process of learning how to a software product or other applications, operating the system interface, learning how to use the programming tools or how to play a game. Yes, there are tutorials on games to, teaching you how to play. They are small peaces of the game in which someone tells you how to move, fight, drive or do whatever the game is about.

We can divide them into two kinds of tutorials: movie tutorials and interactive tutorials.the first are the tutorials you just watch and the second are those where you fallow instructions that appear on screen.

Now I bet you know what tutorials are, no?
